Just got back from a trip on Sugar Lake with Vaughn and Waggy. Jay had these special clients of his down from Illinois , Doc , Vaughn and Waggy came down to fish with Jay. Jay fixed me up with Vaughn and Waggy to go to Sugar and Doc and Jay stayed here and fished Falcon. I was just on Sugar four days ago and the lake had came up another 2.5 foot since then. It looks like it will top over the spillway by the end of this week. Sugar is catching a crazy amount of water. Now this is going to be great , but it has scattered the heck out of the fish. We had to fish a lot of water and deal with a pretty stiff north wind today to catch what we caught. We boated 37 fish today and only had 5 big fish. We did catch a lot of solid 3 to 4 pounders and a few dinks. We did not crank much today, and all our fish came on big plastics. These guys are really fun to fish with and I could tell why they are some of Jay’s favorite clients. I will be back on Sugar Lake in the morning for a three day trip with Jerry and Boyd . Jerry fished down there with me three weeks ago, He will be surprised how much Sugar has came up since then. I will report how we do Thursday evening.

Well just got back from a good trip on Sugar lake. I took Ronnie and Jason for a two day trip . The weather was good and so was the fishing. The first day we boated 47 fish and had some really good quality. Today we had a ton of fish , maybe 60 or so but we caught a lot of small fish today with a few great ones mixed in . Some of these fish are just tugs. Sugar lake is catching a lot of water , it is up another 2 feet since last week. I am booking quite a few trips in Oct , but still have some good dates left. You really should come and give Sugar Lake a try. They caught all of their fish on soft plastics. Cranks would have stroked them , as I( threw it very very little , but when I did I got bit big. They were not set up to crank and did not even have any so they stayed with the plastics and did well.

Wow Falcon lake is alive and well. As most of you that follow my blog , know that I have been doing most of my trips on Sugar lake and I have not fished Falcon very much since April. Well today I had Allen and his dad Rocket out for the day. Now I told them up front that we were going to go and catch some small fish starting out and later fish for some bigger fish out deeper and with bigger baits . Well everything fell into place as we were on the little ones with a few 3 to 4 pounders . There is a couple of the pictures from early this morning with a 3 pounder or so, but most of the pictures were taken after lunch when we went after the bigger bite. I had two really nice fish on the crank bait , not pictured , but other than that I did not fish much and they caught the heck out of the fish. I really lost count , but we caught 30 to 40 fish today. Rocket had one over 6 pounds and another over 7 pounds today. This Lake is really doing well and will just get better. I have the next two days on Sugar so I will post that report come Thursday evening.

Not fishing the last day of the tournament gave me some time to take Payton fishing. While fishing Texoma the last three days I had found a couple of points that were just loaded with whites and stripers. It was a great day to take a 4 year old fishing . Payton caught 15 fish today and she caught both whites and stripers . She caught 4 or 5 stripers and the rest whites but a couple of the strippers were in the 3 to 4 pound class , and just about as much as she could handle. Payton loved the fishing , but I think she liked the boat ride and drive the best, she always wanted to go fast . I will head back to Zapata in the morning and I have a trip on Falcon come Tuesday.

Saturday, September 20th, 2014Well first day of the tournament is in the books and looks like 16.80 is leading. Billy and I had high hopes , because during practice we boated several 3 to 3.5 pound fish. We only had a total of 6 spots to fish, so our plan was to hit all 6 places if needed . Well we needed all 6 places and we hit them all twice . We did not boat a keeper today. I lost a 5 pounder and a 2 pounder on the small crank bait and other than that we did not see a keeper all day. The fish we had on the spots seemed to vanish. Texoma is a lake that you had better have a ton of spots and burn a tank of gas in a days time fishing 30 to 40 spots in a day. We just did not know the lake well enough to do that. Local knowledge goes a long way on any lake , but one like Texoma where you can not just set in one place and hammer them it is a must to run and gun. Billy and I will not be fishing tomorrow as I hurt my shoulder and can not even raise my arm to make a cast. We decided that we had no chance to cash a check as well.

Friday, September 19th, 2014Another long practice day on Texoma. Today we tried to expand on the pattern we found yesterday. We did a lot of running , looking for the same deal. We were able to find two more spots like yesterday and they were both holding keeper fish. I wish we knew the lake better , but it is what it is. We will go with the 5 spots we have and plan on rotating them back and forth both days. The keepers we caught the last two days were at least not dinks , we might have had a 3 pound average. I think that it might take 35 pounds to win so we need a little luck catching a kicker fish. I had one yesterday that would really help so I hope to get one like that in the tournament. I will let you know how it goes.

Thursday, September 18th, 2014Well first day of practice went ok. Billy and I think we got on a little pattern late today and we caught some solid keepers. We also caught a lot of sand bass and strippers today as well. We will expand on our pattern tomorrow and hope the weather holds up thru Sun. I will let you know how tomorrow go.

Well back from Sugar Lake. I got a last min trip to Sugar from an long time client of mine. Mike and Emile came down on the spur of the moment from Lake Charles. Mike normally flies in to Zapata in his plane , but with the weather we had he jumped in his car and drove. We hit Sugar early Monday morning, met with a north wind and overcast and misty skies. Also Sugar is really catching some water it was up over 2 feet since is was there last week. Monday was a grind , as we only boated 19 fish for the day. The overcast and new water had the fish on the move and they were not bunched up on spots like they have been. Late in the day it started to clear a little and the sun popped out a little and that is when we caught the most of our fish on Monday. Today however it started out clear and the fish responded. Mike caught an 8 pounder early and we were getting quit a few bites. I lost two really nice fish on the crankbait. Emile caught an 8 pounder not to long after Mike boated his. The only problem with the day was that we had to get off the water at 10:30 am as they had to get headed back . I sure was trying to get them to stay as we left the fish biting like crazy, that was had for me to leave . I head to Texoma in the morning for the Platinum tournament. Oct is starting to book up so if you want to came down , get in touch with me. Like stated in this report Sugar is catch some water and it is going to just make it better .

Another fun day on the water with Jay. Jay and I went out on a mission today, a little different from yesterday. Our wives got together and ordered up a fish fry. That meant a trip to the dam and catch some eating size fish. Folks let me tell you again, Falcon lake is just full of pound to 2 pound fish. I can not even tell you how many we caught, but the number is staggering. People talk about catching 100 fish a day on a lake in Mexico, well you do not have to travel that far and pay that much to catch 100 fish 1 to 3 pounds with a good one mixed in . Both Jay and I believe right now on a good day that can be done here . The deal going right now is if you want numbers you fish for numbers If you want quality you fish for less numbers , bigger baits and catch a better quality fish. Yesterday we fished for a big bite and we damn sure got them , it was just one of the days Jay and I did not put them in the boat, but we had our chance several times. The weather looks dicey for tomorrow or we would be right back out there. Well the fish was great and we put a dent in it as you can tell. It is always great to have Jay and his wife and kids over.

I gave Jay a call this morning and we hit the water to do a little scouting. Also we are working on a video. I have not used my Gopro latley and the battery was not charged and it did not last till we finally got on the bigger bite. We did get the big bite later in the day. I did get a little video early of some fish and we are going to continue tomorrow with the video efforts , with a fully charged battery. I do have some video of Jay calling his shot on a big fish and beleive me he called it right , but got his ass kicked and she broke him off. I thought he was going to eat his rod for a min. Folks this lake is in great shape on the amount of fish she has in it. As of now you can still catch some big fish and a good numbers of just fish. Our future looks off the chart. We are going to hit it hard tomorrow and I hope to have the video up tomorrow as well.
