Took out Ricky and Wayne today and we started with a bang. We took twenty three fish on our first stop, including this 8 lb and 8 lb 3 oz pictured. We caught some more nice fish there as well a 6 lb 8 oz and two more heavy 5 pounders. We left there and went south to the Tigers and finished the day there catching 12 more there, making our total for the day 35 fish. All our fish were caught in 10 to 14 foot using the Zoom uv mag worm.

Friday, August 27th, 2010 Out on the water with Jimbo and Brett today. We tryed the buzzbait early but it did not produce. We had to go back to the tex rig to catch any fish. We looked alot today for some new fish as Jimbo and I are taking some people out that he knows Monday and Tuesday. We ran into Steve on the lake and he had another giant that he wanted to take a picture of. So we took his picture and he insisted that we make a couple of cast on his spot. We all did and we all caught a good fish. Right now when you find them they are loaded. We had a good flipping bite going just before we ran into
Steve and they were good quality fish. Steve’s fish weighted 9 lb 8 o0z and was post spawn.

Thursday, August 26th, 2010 Took out Ron today. It was a really nice day but the fishing was a little slower than it has been. We had to work our butts off to catch 20 fish today. I had a fish about 8 lbs today that had just came off the bed. I have been keeping an eye on some fish up shallow spawing and they have done their thing for the most part. She was post spawn right out in front of this area and if you look at the picture you can se her bloody fins and tail, and flat belly. We started flipping after lunch and caught a couple of 6’s and a five. Ron got his best fish a 7 pounder up beside the boat but she left without a picture.

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 Out with Jim Bo the past couple of days. Jim Bo has been gone and had not seen the lake since it has filled up. He wanted to go out and do a little buzzbait action. I have not done any of that since the lake came up, but I am game for anything a client wants to do. We got to the spot a little later than I wanted but the fish were still willing and the action was on for about 30 min. We caught nine fish on the buzzbait and had a few more heart attact explosions. Man did they smash it. The biggest on the buzzbait was a 5 lb 3 oz. I still am fishing mostly shallow out to about 14 feet. I just have not found the fish deeper than that lately. The lake is still comming up a little it is at 302.01 today up about one foot in a week. Soft plastics are still the best bait for big fish but that buzzbait action early is hard to beat. The fish in the picture is a 6 lb 15 oz caught out deeper on Mag Fluke.

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010I finally got a day off from 9 straight days. I like to go fishing on my days off. Friday and Sat the wind blew pretty hard and made it a little tougher but with work we did catch some nice fish. The lake is inching up day by day and as of 5 am today we are at 301.67 about a foot from Monday. The big fish are still holding out in that 12 to 16 foot range and it takes alot of moving around to find them and when you do than you can whack 30 to 40 pounds in a hurry. I think you can throw about any plastic at them, but the Mag fluke is for sure working on the big fish. This wind and the rise has murked up a bunch of water on the upper end of the lake but you can still find some clean water and when you do the fish are still wanting a main feature to relate to. I have continued to also check some deep spots but they are really not there in any numbers yet. I did catch a couple of fish yesterday in 22 to 25 but they were small. People will not believe this but I know for a fact that the fish have spawned three times this year. This is very typical when we get this kind of water and have this much water and food. I have actually seen fish on the beds and went back to the areas and seen the fry a few days later. I have been lucky and have been busy guiding a bunch lately but I have some open date I need to fill in Sept so get the kids in school and get your butt down here, I need the work or I might have to go fishing.

Friday, August 20th, 2010Took out George and Brad today and the wind was up today so we put in at the Tigers. We really had to work at it today we boated only 25 fish today but we did have two big fish an 8 lb 12 oz and a 9 lb 4 oz. The 8 lb 12 oz was Brad’s personal best. We mainly texas rigged but also caught a few flipping. Both of the big fish were not fat like the ones I have been catching they looked more like post spawn fish. We did see alot of just hatched out fry today in the Tigers.

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 Took out Andy and his grandson Coy today for a half day trip. Coy just turned 6 yrs old a week or so ago. I love that pose of his first fish a scrappy three pounder, just right for a six year old to handle. Coy was a trooper and me and grandpaw had to help him set the hook, but after that he wa on his on. He landed three fish over six pounds but they were too heavy for him to hold them up for a picture so grandpaw had to help. I loved it to see a grandpaw get his grandchild into fishing. This was a first for me at that age and hope it is not the last. This is what it is all about. We need to take the time and do more of this as I know Coy’s parents and grandparents will cherish these pictures the rest of their lives. I like the big fish but Coy’s first picture is a classic.

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010Took out Louis and Oscar today. We started up the river and started catching fish soon as we got a bait in the water. The water is really clearing up and these fish are loading up on these little prime spots. We just got attacked by 7 pounders today. I took pictures and weighted 10 of them and finally I quit weighing and quit taking pictures. These fish all weighted between 7 lb 6 oz to 7 lb 12 oz. We also caught a dozen more in the 5 to 6 lb 8 oz range as well. We boated over 30 fish today and I bet only 4 or 5 of them were under five pounds. We did not land any monsters, but I will take this anyday.

Saturday, August 14th, 2010Since the FLW canceled their tournaments because of the Pirate scare. I thought that I would go ahead and let out one of my favorite places to fish since the incidents accrued in April. I have had this place to myself. It has been so good I took a photographer over there and we did some action shots. The media will not leave this story alone and I have been taking advantage of this scare to go into Mexico to fish. I have been living on the water in Mexico so all you scaredy cats can keep on being scared and staying out of some of the best fishing on the lake.

Thursday, August 12th, 2010 Took out Derrick today for a Falcon Lake Guide Trip. We started a little slow on numbers, but we were getting bit and when we did it was a big fish. Our first stop we caught three over heavy sevens and one that weighted about ten and the reason we do not have a picture of her is. Derrick stuck this fish and when she came up I saw that she was a monster. I threw my rod down and ran to the back to help Derrick land this fish because I knew this was his personal best and I grabbed her no problem. I handed this fish that I was guessing that went about ten pounds to Derrick after all we had just weight a fish that was nearly eight and she was quite a bit bigger than her. I ask Derrick to hold the fish in the water ,while I got my rod unhung. I got that done and turned the boat to stay off the fish and got the camera and the scales ready to record Derricks personal best. I got ready and told him to lift her up and I would get a picture and then weigh her. Well she flopped out of Derricks hand and back in the water she went. I really felt bad for him but I could not quit laughing. After that I get a call from Steve a freind that I fish with some and he had a fish that he wanted me to weigh and take a picture off. He was just arround the corner from us. He also said he might need a little help that the fish were eating him up. The bottom right picture is Steve with his fish that weighted 10lb 4 oz on his scale and 10 lb 3 oz on mine. We stayed and fished a little while with Steve on his spot and it was loaded. We and Steve caught a bunch of fish 6 to 9 pounds. We left there because I had a flipping bite I want to check mid day and we caught a few more doing that as well. The fish were on the bite today. We boated 30 and quite at 1 pm.
