Back to work today. I took out Ryan and Robert today for a half day trip/ Being only a half day I did not go far. The bite was on and never let up. We just whacked the fish and as you can see they caught some nice ones as well. We did not mess around with the spinnerbait we just tex rigged soft plastics and the fish were really eating it. We found numbers of fish on deeper ledges but the big fish were up shallow. We caught all of the bigger fish on the bank in two to three feet of water. We boated about 50 fish today in about 5 hours.

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010Took out Sheretta and my daughter Morgan today. The lake opened at 8:30 am today and we were waiting on the county ramp and launched at exactly 8:30. Morgan is visiting while out of school and so she wanted to go fishing and that is what we did. We headed up the river because we were not going to fish that long and I have been on some fish up there sense the lake has been closed and I have been putting in at the Burro. We ended up catching about twenty and to my surprise the fish were real shallow toward the back of the creeks. I even saw a fish on a bed. If you do not believe that Falcon has several spawns a year just go up shallow and look at all the 1 to 3 inch bass swimming around. Today I saw several groups of just hatched out fry as well. This is an incredible lake and we are in for a great future.

Monday, July 26th, 2010Well they are reopening the lake at 8:30 am Tuesday. Steve and I went out again today and we put in at the Burro and the concrete ramp is finally useable there. We headed straight the Salada and caught a few dinks but never did get on the fish. From there we went to Blanco and same thing a few dinks. After about 4 hours of struggling I decided to change up things and we started flipping in heavy cover. Just as I had thought the fish were not active and were right in the middle of the thickest brush you could find. We caught several fish this way and if you were not in the thick of things you were not getting bit.

Saturday, July 24th, 2010Well the lake is still closed, but Steve and I found a place to put in in the Tigers. It has been awhile since I have been down there. First of all there is a bunch of water in the Tigers and can be a bit overwhelming. Today ended up being our best day, Even though we have been around 50 the last couple of times we went out, today we boated about 70 and some really nice fish as well. I left the camera in the truck and we had 6 or 7 fish that was camera worthy. All our fish came on Texas rigged soft plastics in 14 to 18 foot of water.

Friday, July 23rd, 2010 Steve and I went out today, The ramp at Burro is getting nasty, I hope they open up the lake before to long. We covered a bunch of water early and was not getting bit at all. Finally we relocated and man did we find a wad of fish. Most were 2 to 4 pounders, but we did catch a few big ones mixed in. I had one that went 10 pounds and Steve had a couple over six and one about 7 pounds. We got off the water just in time as the bottom fell out. We caught about 40 or so today. Very few on the spinnerbait, most on soft plastics

Monday, July 19th, 2010This should put it in prospective for those that have driven by a mile marker on Falcon before. The lake crested on the 17th at 309.31 and that is a record high. We are back under 309 at 308.89 today. The fishing is great if you can find a place to put in and avoid the border patrol. The talk is that they want to close the whole lake. I talked to the Game warden and he told me that the lake was closed from marker 10 to 14 on Texas side. I can see that but there is not any danger away from town and no structures that might get hit by boat wake that they are worried about. I know that it will sure effect the economy around here if they keep this lake closed for much longer. For now the only boat ramp usable is at the Burro and it takes four wheel drive. There is a few private ramps in the Veleno but you will get your butt put back on the trailer because the game wardens are keeping a close watch on the area. I did go fishing today and caught a few but I put in and went north of Burro checking out what is good up there.

Sunday, July 18th, 2010 Steve and I sliped back on the lake today. All I can say is Wow did we catch them today. I used every bait I took. We fished till about 1:00 and I know we caught over 50. We just about had to sit down and rest as these fish were wearing us out. Clear water is the key and just about every pocket up the river has it. This mesage is for Bob. I can’t beleive your are leaving LOL. Most fish that we caught were really good size. We kinda of lost count but I have pictures of 7 over 6 pouinds and we did not take pictures of a bunch of fish that size. It looks like the lake has topped out,but I think it will be a while before they open it back up.

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 The lake is still inching up and now sits at 309.30 I did not go out but plan to in the morning. The picture on the left is of the public ramp and if you look close the pole in the far distance is where the ramp top is. This water is in the parking lot not far from where you turn in. The right picture is of the Veleno bridge as the water is nearly touching the bottom. I called around today trying to find places to launch and did not have any luck. So far the only place to launch is in the Burro way up the river. The lake is still off limits from marker 10 to marker 14 on the US side.

Friday, July 16th, 2010 Could not sit at the house again today so Steve and I snuck on the lake and did a little fishing. The lake is suppose to be closed but they have to see us to run us off. We scouted around and finally ran into quite a few fish. We caught several good fish, no monsters but big enough to keep us happy. The lake is still inching up at sits at 309.1

Thursday, July 15th, 2010 Well the rise has slowed a little but we are still comming up as of 6 pm we are at 308.67 or 7 and a half feet over full. The ramps are all closed and for now the game wardens are keeping everyone off the lake. They have found low electrical wires on the water and that is what they are saying why they do not want anybody on the lake. Falcon lake is now well over it’s all time high of 308.1 From what I am finding is that we will continue to inch up and peek around the 18th. This should put us somewhere around 310. The pictures are of Becon Lodge and the picture on the left is my old place.
